Matt Hethcoat winning his prize.

Matt won 1 of 3 awards for best oral presentation. He won for a talk entitled: ‘A machine learning approach to map tropical selective logging in Landsat imagery’. This talk explored Matt’s research at the Grantham Centre.

At the Grantham Centre Matt uses satellite data to measure tropical forest degradation and its consequences. Due to the differences in images Matt and his team can tell if deforestation is occurring in remote areas. If you want to find out more about Matt and what he got up to since getting this prize, then you can look at his profile page.

Like all the Grantham Scholars, Matt received training in communication and outreach. As such we’re especially proud of him getting this prize for his talk.
