Grantham Scholar wins chemistry prize

Congratulations to Grantham Scholar Eleanor O’Doherty! She has won an award as part of the Imagine Chemistry 2019 Nouryon challenge.

Eleanor took part in the competition in a three-day event at the company’s RD&I centre in Deventer, the Netherlands.

The premise of the competition was to allow start-ups and research groups to collaborate with Nouryon in working together to scale up their idea. Eleanor submitted ‘Sustainable Routes To Modern Surfactants: Providing an alternative oil source’ based upon her PhD topic of BSFL fat.

The idea won an award for collaborative research from 160 global applications. Eleanor has successfully made bio-based surfactants (soaps) in her PhD project and with Nouryon’s help will make a lot more.
