Moaed with some of the plants grown for Desert Gardens

Desert Garden appeal

Scientists from The Institute of Sustainable Food and the Grantham Centre are helping Syrian refugees to grow fresh food from old mattresses.

The Grantham Centre has been working in the Za’atari refugee camp for years. At the camp they co-create sustainable solutions to the refugee crisis. Working alongside refugees, they have used science to improve lives. You can find out more about this project here.

One of these projects is the remarkable repurposing of old mattresses to create a hydroponic system to grow food – the Desert Garden.

But without your help, the Desert Garden project will end. Donate now to secure its future and help refugees around the world to thrive.
