Green Impact is an NUS environmental accreditation and awards scheme running in over 50 universities across the UK. By celebrating green actions and providing a clear framework to create positive change it encourages staff and students to work together to make their institution more environmentally friendly. The University of Sheffield has been successfully taking part in Green Impact for ten years, and it is now considered a central part of our longer-term carbon reduction strategy.

We are currently looking for Green Impact Project Assistants to help run the scheme. Project Assistants are student volunteers that are responsible for supporting, motivating and assisting staff teams as they work through the online workbook of green initiatives and projects. By becoming a Project Assistant you’ll be able to make a worthwhile difference whilst also developing valuable skills in project management, team development, leadership and communication.

The position is voluntary and lasts from mid-October until early April next year when the workbook is submitted. Four hours per month are required for the role. Places are limited and interest for this role is usually really high. It is a long term commitment and you will become an integral part of the team, so please consider this carefully before signing up

You can gain HEAR accreditation for taking part and will be in the running for Project Assistant of the Year at our annual awards ceremony. What’s more, volunteers will benefit from tailored IEMA approved training sessions delivered by the NUS and receive continued support from the Sustainability Projects Assistant based at the University.

Training for the role will take place on Tuesday 9th October. There will be two sessions (10.00 to 13.00 or 14.00 to 17.00) and you must attend one of these in order to become a Project Assistant. A free lunch will be available for all participants.

Please read the job description for more details on the requirements of the role, person specifications and what you can gain. There’s also a whole section about being a Project Assistant on the Green Impact website, take a look here.

If you’re interested, fill out this form. Please note the deadline for applications is 11:59 pm Thursday 4th October. However, if you’re really interested don’t wait till then! Apply today!
